How did Green Guy Recycling get its start? Kyle Hahn started his recycling career in college, working as the Recycling Coordinator for the Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University). At the time, the university accepted recycling from the public at a facility in the stadium parking lot. In 1995, the university closed its facility to the public, prompting Kyle to strike out and start his own recycling company. Kyle found an old warehouse for rent at 937 Hwy 80, behind what was then the old Walmart.

On January 3, 1995, with only 3 employees, Kyle Hahn opened the doors of Green Guy Recycling. During the first year, Green Guy recycled 1 million pounds of material. The company now has over 30 employees and recycles over 45 million pounds per year.

​Green Guy Recycling began as a company that primarily recycled fibers, such as paper and cardboard. Over time, metals recycling began to dominate the business. The company now specializes in purchasing ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Maintaining contracts with large manufacturers and a growing industrial sector, Green Guy continues to expand its influence to serve San Marcos and many surrounding communities.

Green Guy Recycling continues to accept and promote household recycling. In 2006, the San Marcos City Council awarded Green Guy a contract to operate a public drop off center to provide recycling services to City offices, facilities and events, and to provide staff for the City’s Household Hazardous Waste facility. Green Guy Recycling still maintains this contract and looks forward to serving the City of San Marcos and its residents for many years to come.

After 10 years of service, Jeremy Kay purchased the business from Kyle and remains the sole owner to this day. Prior to this, Jeremy was a Texas State student. He was hired on as a part-time route driver in 2005. He was quickly promoted to Operations Manager where he directed the logistics and daily operations of the company. Kyle had turned down several corporate buyout offers before deciding to retire and sell the company to his longtime friend and employee.

Under Jeremy’s leadership, the company has continued to thrive, with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and community involvement. He has expanded the business, introducing new services and technology to improve efficiency and better serve clients. Jeremy’s commitment to excellence has earned the company numerous awards and recognitions, solidifying its position as a leader in the industry.

Today, the company remains dedicated to its core values of integrity, reliability, and exceptional customer service. With a team of experienced professionals and a fleet of modern vehicles, Jeremy is confident in the company’s ability to meet the evolving needs of its customers. As the company looks to the future, Jeremy’s vision is clear: To continue providing top-notch service, building lasting relationships, and making a positive impact on the community.

Tommy began his career at Green Guy as the baler in 2008. He now manages the daily operations and logistics of the company. Over the past 14 years, he has risen through the ranks, demonstrating exceptional leadership skills, a keen eye for detail, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Today, as Operations Manager, Tommy oversees the entire production process, ensuring that every aspect of the business runs efficiently. His in-depth knowledge of the industry and ability to think strategically have been instrumental in driving growth and increasing productivity at Green Guy. Tommy’s remarkable journey is a testament to the company’s dedication to nurturing talent and promoting from within, and his continued success is a source of inspiration to the entire team.

Joey manages non-ferrous metals purchasing and scale operations.  Joey specializes in material grading, pricing, and customer service. Joey has been with the company since 2017. His expertise has led to him becoming the sales manager and in charge of public relations. Throughout his tenure, Joey has developed and maintained strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring a consistent flow of high-quality materials and negotiating favorable prices. His exceptional communication skills have enabled him to effectively address customer inquiries, resolve issues promptly, and provide personalized solutions to meet their unique needs. Under his leadership, the sales team has consistently exceeded targets, and the company’s reputation has improved significantly. Joey’s dedication to excellence, combined with his industry knowledge and passion for customer satisfaction, has made him an invaluable asset to the company.

Will is the Fleet Manager for our transportation department. He sets 20, 30, and 40 yard dumpsters for residential, commercial, and industrial accounts. Will specializes in truck operation, route management, and customer service. Will has been with the company since 2011. With over a decade of experience under his belt, Will has honed his expertise in optimizing logistics, streamlining operations, and providing top-notch support to our valued customers. His dedication to efficiency and customer satisfaction has earned him a reputation as a trusted and reliable leader within our team. Whether it’s coordinating deliveries, resolving issues, or simply offering a helping hand, Will is always ready to go the extra mile to ensure our customers receive exceptional service.

Melinda has been with the company since 2019. She moved from office assistant to lead cashier in payout and has grown into her current position as the Administrative Office Manager. Throughout her tenure, she consistently demonstrated exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic; earning her rapid promotions and recognition as a valuable asset to the team. Her ability to multitask, manage complex projects, motivate employees, and provide exceptional customer service has made her an indispensable leader in the administrative department. His expertise has allowed us to see a significant reduction in workplace incidents and a notable increase in employee engagement.
